the EU's "safer internet day" has totally dicked it in favor of shit that flies totally in the face of all things american and there's a bunch of shitty regressive-left-tier folks on the board who have a history of censorship

so much for that one, eh

the EU's Safer Internet Day is an initiative to make the internet a better place by applying what the EU considers "free speech" (that is, you can't say anything 'hateful' or 'inflammatory' and sometimes even just 'controversial' because of how restrictive hate speech laws are in the EU)

a solid chunk of twitter's "safety council" either supports or references this initiative, and most of these members also have their own history of either supporting censorship or advocating for the creation of policies that would be paramount to censorship

there's another block of twitter's "safety council" which is feminist or left-leaning, and the majority of these groups support policies that are either extremely hugboxish in nature or would also amount to censorship. the feminist/left-leaning bloc is a bit more diversified in their methods but some of the highlights are the NNEDV which helped get the extremely unbalanced Violence Against Women Act (which gendered the shit out of violence and other fun stuff), the Anti Defamation League (which supports anitur sarkeesian), the Dangerous Speech Project, which kinda speaks for itself, and Hollaback, which created the internet's next great hugbox, Heartmob

TL;DR: there are a bunch of groups on the "safety council" which through one way or another basically want to restrict/censor/control what you can do on the internet based on a medley of stupid shit such as age, personal opinions, and so on. most of these groups are connected in one way or another
